Françoise Gamerdinger
Direction des Affaires Culturelles
Directeur
Description
Director of Monaco’s Department of Cultural Affairs since June 2019. Joined the department in 2001 and became Assistant Director in 2008.
Departmental duties aside, Gamerdinger is notably in charge of the portfolios for Monegasque heritage, literary prizes, and the conferences of the Fondation Prince Pierre. She has also been appointed cultural expert to represent the Principality before the Council of Europe.
Since 2012, Gamerdinger has also handled the management and programming of the Théâtre Princesse Grace. To entice the young to attend the theatre, she has developed several initiatives, such as a discount for theatre-goers under 25 years of age and a programme (operating on a volunteer basis) to welcome pupils for certain evening shows.
In addition, she was elected to serve with the mayor from 2007 to 2023. As the Mayor’s Deputy for Culture, she was delegated authority over the Public Library and the Pavillon Bosio
and, in 2011, created the Pôle Culture, bringing under its umbrella the Ecole Supérieure d’Arts Plastiques, the Académie de Musique Rainier III, the Jardin Exotique, and the Public Library. She was also head of project for the new public library, set to open in late 2025.
Her competencies and professional experience enable her to work daily to extend the Principality’s influence, cultivate the public’s cultural sensibilities, and spotlight her country’s cultural specificities.
Within the scope of her present duties, Gamerdinger is keen to encourage and promote artistic creation, support artists, and burnish the Principality’s heritage but also to develop a cultural policy geared toward the young.
Hence the many projects she has developed, such as the the international artist residencies at the Quai Antoine Ier and the Culture.mc website, launched in November 2024.
Also to her credit are several projects for the young public, notably a collaboration with young tage and set designers from Monaco’s Ecole d’Arts Plastiques for exhibitions organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs and the creation of an open stage for young talents at the Théâtre du Fort Antoine.
